WORDS

JUST LIKE A KID

What’s on the inside that can’t fully be seen from the out? Are you carrying around something that no one can really see? What if we decided to communicate, think, act, respond with this in truth?

Mark wrote a song with a lyric and a melody about how we often share the hatred (sin) of this world before we share the good and the beautiful, the fearful and wonderful (Jesus).

But we didn’t have to show her all the hatred of this world, but we did. Every turn of the page, there is a story that burns, like hell inside her soul.

We all have something the people around us can’t really see, but in the moments, do we react and speak as if the moment is important, true, eternal, or even the last ?

Do we think about what we say before we say it? Do we ask “what’s in it for me” or ask “God, how can I help?”

Do we take the best piece or wait and give it away? Do we listen to care? Ask to learn? Seek to mend? Do we test the facts before our Savior and leave the gossip at the door?

Do we hide under the protection by obsessing or abusing or do we surrender to the shade of His grace?

She didn’t have to fear all the world like she did, just like a kid.

To our daughter in the day to day, she carries a lower than average hemoglobin and a structure of a red blood cell that keeps her body constantly working, and no one can see, but she reveals it when she is in need.

Sometimes she’s too tired, sometimes she has kicks in pain, sometimes she bursts into tears and the hold of our arms around her isn’t enough to help her.

No one really knows how the symptoms impact her. Jesus does. She’s been the side of a comment or two that can send a parent fuming. One that begs for the eyes of Jesus to be seen.

She is fearfully and wonderfully made. Just like you. Just like him. Just like her. What if we chose to communicate, think, act, respond with this in truth?

So how do we not fear the world, just like a kid?

Fear God by trusting that Jesus is the Son of God, that He is the great I Am. That I am a sinner, and He is my Savior.  His death on the cross constantly working victory. Follow His commands. Repent.

And if you have a child, know Him first, and give Him to your children. So much of what they believe is in who they see.

Jesus can’t be fully seen in today’s world, but we can reveal Him by trusting Him and asking of Him and seeking in Him. He is our value.

We have two choices in the moments.

  1. React with Jesus - precious grace, wonderful mercy - rarely easy

  2. React with Satan - hatred of this world - easy

Song Meaning

Not really inspired by any specific event or experience related to anyone close to me or not close to me. However explainable, sadly explainable through the nature of issues plaguing our world, particularly our youth. Emotional and behavioral issues have more than replaced the physical struggles of our ancestors. Today the need is different, the consequences the same. A sustainable balance of emotional wellbeing is required for life. Much like a child starving for food, our children are more than ever starving for emotional wellbeing. Negativity is “on center stage” in our minds much like hunger or the need for shelter once on the minds of generations past. Negativity can be heavy. As good stewards of God’s world we must take careful consideration where this weight plays in the balance.

It’s a story of a girl who’s pain and fear of the sin and sadness of this world simply overtook her will to live. The moral is to look at how we portray the daily life and expectations of a human being worthy of life and acceptance into our society. What is the value of your life should you become completely and totally unaccepted in this world?

Scripture Reference

“I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made;  your works are wonderful,  I know that full well.”

Psalm 139

“For by grace you have been saved through faith; and that not of yourselves, it is the gift of God;..”

Ephesians 2

“But the free gift is not like the transgression. For if by the transgression of the one the many died, much more did the grace of God and the gift by the grace of the one Man, Jesus Christ, abound to the many.”

Romans 5

“Anyone who claims to be in the light but hates a brother or sister is still in the darkness. Anyone who loves their brother and sister lives in the light, and there is nothing in them to make them stumble. But anyone who hates a brother or sister is in the darkness and walks around in the darkness. They do not know where they are going, because the darkness has blinded them.

I am writing to you, dear children, because your sins have been forgiven on account of his name.

I am writing to you, fathers, because you know him who is from the beginning. I am writing to you, young men, because you have overcome the evil one.

I write to you, dear children, because you know the Father. I write to you, fathers, because you know him who is from the beginning. I write to you, young men, because you are strong, and the word of God lives in you, and you have overcome the evil one.

Do not love the world or anything in the world. If anyone loves the world, love for the Father is not in them.

For everything in the world—the lust of the flesh, the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life—comes not from the Father but from the world.

The world and its desires pass away, but whoever does the will of God lives forever.”
